Lou Piniella Interview – Is Big Z (Finally) Ready to Win?!?!
by MiserableCubsFan on February 26, 2010
The most thrilling/inspiring/hopeful part of this interview with Lou Piniella was Piniella recalling a moment from this spring when Carlos Zambrano told him that it is "time to win!" Think about that for a moment. Last year Big Z made the proclamation that he is going to retire at the end of his current contract and (after a subpar season and a long offseason to reflect) he realizes that his time to "win" is quickly coming to a close. Say it IS so!
Piniella also express his delight with the energy level in spring training and the low expectations heading into the season. As for the Opening Day Roster, it is pretty clear from this interview that Lou is leaning towards a veteran club with a few "young kids" thrown in. Although Piniella is impressed with the fielding of Starlin Castro ("Hey boy, ya sure got some purty hands."), Ryan Theriot is going to be the starting shortstop for the Cubs. Listen to all of Lou's musings on the "hungry" 2010 Cubs!
