CUBS WIN! Cubs Finally Take Advantage of Crappy Pitching!

by MiserableCubsFan on July 3, 2009

So many times this year the Cubs have faced a starting pitcher who was struggling only to swing early in the count and make easy outs. Well, last night that changed! Derrek Lee continues his dominance in June and the Fuld & Fox show continue to dazzle. Could Fuld & Fox be this year's Theriot & Fontenot dynamic duo? Let's hope Lou has the balls to keep them both constantly in the lineup.

I watched the MLB Network broadcast just to see what/if they had any enhancements for their broadcast. Sadly, I was greeted by former Douchebag of the Week Matt Vasgersian who made the Milton Bradley'ish mistakes of bringing the first inning to a close after only two outs and calling a strike out on Hardy with only two strikes. Dan Plesac could not stop talking about all-things-Cubs as if he was trying to unload all that he's learned from working at Comcast SportsNet the last few years. I did miss Len (wonder if he mentioned DeRosa) & Bob and am really looking forward to today's game.

Lou Piniella checks in for his weekly chat and continues to be surprised by the mood swings of Cub fans. Piniella is thrilled that the Cubs continue to remain three games back with Ramirez on DL, is also delighted with the glove work that Jake Fox is showing at third base, ... AND (say it ain’t so Lou!) that with Reed Johnson and Ramirez coming back next week, Jake Fox might have to go back to the minors(?!?!).

As for Soriano’s “confidence” issues, Piniella has talked with him about the possibility of taking a couple of days off and Lou expresses the same frustration of all Cubs fans as he watches Soriano swinging at bad pitches -- “if he went up there and didn’t swing the bat, he would get a lot of walks!” Finally, Lou reminds all that the Cubs were lacking Ramirez, Guzman, Johnson, and Miles for the Sox series.

Steve Stone is no spring chicken these days but it is amazes me that he has now spent 95% of his broadcasting career sitting next to aging/codgerly/elderly broadcasters ... How he can possibly stand that old man musty smell along with all the talk of "duck snorts" and "can of corns" is beyond me.

I accidentally recorded the wrong broadcast so I had to watch the Sox coverage of the beloved Cub last night. I mercifully allowed myself free use of the fast forward button as the "He Gone!" started to pile up. Hawk & Steve made fun of Fukudome's spinning strikeout style, but salivated over the thought of Jake Fox in the American League as a DH. It was (once again) a brutal game for this truly miserable Cubs fan, but at least I can assure myself that I will entertained and illuminated by Len & Bob today.

"I'm short, fat, and I'm fighting against a little athleticism issues." Who cares if he doesn't have a position - get him on the field! He is right in those wonder years of 26-30, the Cubs have been struggling offensively, he sounds like he isn't going to let the pressure get to him -- what are they waiting for? Put Fox in the line-up right now! Interview with Boers & Bernstein on 670 THE SCORE.
